Flying cheap was a very interesting video it gave me a better understand of the pilot industry. It also gave me a chance to see the pros and cons of the industry and what to expect in the aviation industry. Pilots in the U.S. faces a potentially pilot shortage in the coming years. The military is training fewer pilots than ever before in the past years. The cost of civilian pilot training has skyrocketed due to new regulations. Co-pilots merely needed a commercial pilot certificate, which only required 250 flying hours. They also need an Airline Transport Pilot certificate, which requires 1,500 hours of flying experience (or at least 1,000 hours if they have a bachelor's degree with an aviation major). The U.S. airline industry faces a huge wave of pilot retirements from the baby boom generation as pilots who entered the industry in the 1980s following deregulation reach the retirement age of 65. Nearly 18,000 mainline pilots are expected to retire between 2012 and 2021, with the number of annual retirements increasing throughout that period. Higher pay would encourage more people to enroll in flight school, but due to the high cost, while also convincing qualified pilots who are working outside the airline industry to return.
However, there are a few barriers in the way of giving regional airline pilots a pay raise. The first is that regional airlines like Republic Airways and SkyWest have lots of long-term contracts with carriers. Unless they can convince their legacy carrier partners to amend these contracts, the regional airlines won't be able to meaningfully grow revenue per pilot to support the pay raise. It has become a burden, preventing them from taking a share of the vast increase in industry profitability.
Being a pilot is a very important task such as doctors but a doctor only have one life in there hand a pilot has multiple. Professionalism in the workplace is based on many factors, including how you dress, carry yourself, your attitude and how you interact with others. Professionalism is very important in the aviation. The definition of professionalism indicates that each person perform their tasks with genuine earnest and honesty. It refers to a person doing his / her job with sincerity, and maintaining professional etiquette and ethics in the workplace. A lack of professionalism in the workplace can cause confusion. It can also alter teamwork it is important to make sure professionalism is enforced in the workplace to help everything go smooth and professional.
There are some good organization that will help you with your career in the aviation industry for example the OBAP. Founded in 1976, OBAP’s mission is to enhance, advance and promote educational opportunities in aviation/aerospace and to develop and sustain a process for the ongoing mentoring of our youth. There goals are to motivate our youth to become educationally prepared for life, increase minority participation in aviation and aerospace through exposure, training, mentoring and scholarships, increase the number of underrepresented minority professionals, engineers, scientists and management personnel in aviation and related industries, and to better assist there organization, membership concerns and constituencies.OPBP (2014)

Being a pilot is just as important as being a doctor even though most people do not treat it in this way. I agree that professionalism includes how you dress, carry yourself, your attitude and how you interact with others. I also think that professionalism includes the ability to be a great leader and upholding the highest moral values.
ReplyDeleteI agree that low pay is a deterrence for people wanting to enroll in piloting school. Flying is an expensive hobby and few people are willing to accept the low wages and long hours. Even though it gets much better after a couple of years many people want instant results.
